John Thomas Dodson

John Thomas Dodson is Artistic Director of Conciertos de la Villa de Santo Domingo, and Music Director of the Lexington Bach Festival. Dodson has conducted in renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Hungarian State Opera House, Athen's Megaron Concert Hall, Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in Rochester, Denver's Boettcher Concert Hall, and Cleveland's Severance Hall and Maltz Center for the Performing Arts. He has guest conducted extensively in North America and Europe, leading concerts with the Athens State Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra of the Dominican Republic, Bialystok Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic, New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra UANL in Monterrey, Mexico. Dodson made seven tours of Russia and recorded with the Omsk Philharmonic. He studied composition with American composer Robert Jager and has collaborated with many living composers, leading over twenty-five world-premieres in the United States, Russia and Europe. Dodson performed under the batons of eminent composers including Aaron Copland, Karel Husa and Vincent Persichetti, and he was invited to conduct at Lincoln Center's Persichetti Remembered concert. Other notable projects include conducting the world premiere of Theodore Antoniou’s Cello Concerto in Athens, Greece, and recording the orchestral music of Robert Jager for the Naxos label. Other contemporary music projects include a two-year collaboration with Kenneth Fuchs as the Adrian Symphony Orchestra’s Composer-in-Residence, co-commissioning a new work by Christopher Theofinidis and performances collaborating with Michael Daugherty and Bright Sheng. Previously he served as Principal Conductor of the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, Music Director for Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, Adrian Symphony Orchestra, Bryan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra New York, Coronado Music Festival and Philharmonia Orchestra of Tucson, and Associate Professor of Music at Tennessee Technological University, where he was selected as the Pan-Hellenic Faculty of the Year, and Adrian College, where he received the Ross Newsom Award for Outstanding Teaching. John Thomas Dodson's arrangements and orchestrations have been performed by professional orchestras across the United States.
